Print Culture: Purchase Preference by Sex

On the print-culture topic of purchase preferences for chick-lit and lad-lit, here is part of a wider controversy -- not one that is centrally relevant to this course -- over the question of difference between the sexes: pro (via Arts & Letters Daily) and con (via democracynow.org).

I just wanted to point out that the first article makes a sweeping generalization about feminism. The author states that feminists deny biological differences between men and women, but this is not always the case. Feminists differ greatly in their views, and "radical feminists" actually base much of their theoretical content on what they believe to be the huge gap between male and female -- biologically, socially, etc..

Well observed: there are divergent views expressed here.
The first article was posted on Arts & Letters Daily, which is a good clearinghouse for literate opinion and analysis. I balanced it with a article from an activist grassroots news and ideas forum, http://www.democracynow.org/
If you find any additional viewpoints to add -- including your own -- please post or link them here!

I didn't know where else to post this, but another issue that is worth viewing throughout the class that coincides with 'questioning Darwin's Theory. If humankind is the odd species out for women to possess the physically attractive characteristics (in contrast to the Peacock's feathers) and if women have chosen their men based on what they can sustain them with, what occurs when in recent decades, esspecially with the 'dawn' of metrosexuality, men (openly) prep themselves in much the same manner, and how does this affect the female's choice, and if it does affect it, how does this affect Darwin's Theory?

Hello Howard:

That certainly works -- i.e. it fits the theory. There is a question, though: how attractive is metrosexuality? We'll see an interesting (& very amusing) clip on Monday in this regard.
